I have been in depression for so long, my taste in music was essentially influenced by that. Although I listen to happier songs from time to time, I almost always listen to sad or slow songs. The genre of the music is usually rock, but I can listen to a pop song if it’s depressing enough.

10Black – Pearl Jam

I used to find myself singing this song, no, crying out loud this song when I got drunk.

“I know someday you’ll have a beautiful life
I know you’ll be a star
In somebody else’s sky
But why
Why
Why can’t it be
Why can’t it be mine”

Well, thank you Eddie Vedder.

9Flying – Anathema

This calming song by Anathema is definitely one of my favorite Anathema songs. I love everything about these guys.

8I am Nothing – Katatonia

“Tonight, I’m nothing, it doesn’t matter where I’ve been” Perhaps, lyrics are the best description of depression.

7Chandelier (Piano Version) – Sia

I don’t listen to Sia or pop music in general, but this version is just my type of music. I’ve heard this song first in a TV Show and been listening to ever since.

6Street Spirit – Radiohead

A classic. Anyone in depression listens to Radiohead for sure.

5Creep – Radiohead

No need for further explanation.

4Perfect Day – Lou Reed

Seems like a dreamy land for me. A perfect day… Feels like never gonna happen.

3The Moon Touches Your Shoulder – Porcupine Tree

I wish I could add every song of Porcupine Tree to this list, but that’s not possible. So you have to find your favorite.

2Melancholy Man – The Moody Blues

I’m a melancholy man, that’s what I am. Yep. The Moody Blues have been one of my favorite bands ever since I first heard them.

1Again – Archive

This is perhaps the most depressing song I know. Okay, maybe not but it speaks to me directly. It touches me. It tears me apart. Crushes my soul. Listen to this song ASAP!
